Workshop Planning: Digital Fitness: Paving the Way to a Healthy Future for Children

Topic Selection:

In this project, you will create a professional learning presentation or workshop on a topic of your choice that you will use to engage and provide professional growth for an audience of your choice. Keeping with the real-world theme of our program, you will submit your proposal for presentation at an educational conference or professional learning meeting of your choice. This project will demonstrate your understanding of the performance indicators for ISTE Coaching Standard 3

I would like to present a lecture on the topic “Digital Fitness: Paving the Way to a Healthy Future for Children: How to prepare children for a digital future with their health and fitness.

In today’s digital age, it is crucial to equip children with the necessary skills to thrive in a technology-driven world. However, the rise of obesity among children in Saudi Arabia raises concerns about their future health and well-being. The COVID-19 pandemic further exacerbated this issue, as online learning became the norm, leading to reduced physical activity and limited access to physical education. Additionally, parents often express their worries about their children spending excessive time in front of screens. (Mann, A., Schwabe, M., Fraser, P., Fülöp, G., & Ansah, G. A. 2020)

Audience:

This Conference aims to address these challenges and shed light on the importance of utilizing digital technology to promote children’s health and fitness. By targeting parents and teachers, who play vital roles in a child’s learning and development, we aim to provide practical strategies for leveraging technology in maintaining student health and fitness.

Event Type:

The Conference will be conducted via Zoom, hosted by my school, and is open to physical education teachers and parents in the neighborhood. Participants are required to pre-register using Google Forms to receive the webinar link.

Length:

List the factors that will help you determine the length of your session.

A Physical Education Conference with Technology has different options when it comes to formats and time limits for those looking to give a presentation. I am looking forward to a 30–40-minute tutoring session which is a mixture of lectures, case studies and parent-teacher collaboration. According to their requirements, the session should include practical ideas that participants can apply in their fields, panel members, and a short question-and-answer period.

Active learning and participation:

At the present moment, this presentation is planned to be held remotely. But I shall include some materials that need to be looked through before and after the Power Point presentation. There are many advantages to incorporating technology into physical education during conferences, as evidenced by an article named “Top 5 Advantages of Utilizing Technology in the Classroom for PE”. Some of those are that the audience can come prepared, different, and effective learning can occur, more time can be spent on meaningful activities, the playing field can be leveled, and questions can be asked ahead of time. Designing presentation materials to meet the audience’s needs can also create an “extended conference. (Curtin, D. (2023)

Originally, I planned to conduct this presentation as a webinar in person, but because I will not be in the same country at the time of the conference, it will be remote, and that is via Zoom. I am planning to host a webinar using Zoom with the help of the conference organizer, ICPESS 2023:17, International Conference on Physical Education and Sport Science, November 20–21, 2023, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Content Knowledge Needs:

ISTE Coaching Standards

The standards that will be covered by my presentation include:

4.3.cPartner with educators to evaluate the efficacy of digital learning content and tools to inform procurement decisions and adoption.

4.3.dPersonalize support for educators by planning and modeling the effective use of technology to improve student learning.

My presentation will comply with the ISTE Standards for Training for Educators 3

(collaborator) in the following ways:

○ ISTE 3c standard:

■ I will share with teachers about fitness digital tools and evaluate whether they are worth buying or not.

○ ISTE 3d Standard:  I will give teachers a solution to how to plan and implement the use of technology in developing student fitness.

Addressing Common Misconceptions:

 ● Changing the misconceptions that children spend to much time in front of screens.

● Spending free time maintaining his/her health and fitness.

● Physical competition with friends from a distance instead of playing video games and sitting in front of screens for a long time.

● We have always used flyers to communicate with students and parents. If we switch to using social media, how can we ensure that the information is getting out to a wider audience?  Benefits of using social media include cost-effectiveness, immediate feedback, and multimedia options. Challenges may involve ensuring digital literacy and access for all recipients, managing potential information overload, and maintaining data privacy. The choice between social media and handouts hinges on a balance between technology’s advantages and the need for inclusivity and accessibility.

Teachers’ Needs:

■ I included alt text in my PowerPoint slides for teachers and parents to see about the Global Cooperation Project

Stay Fit & Healthy

■ I’ve included image captions for a better understanding of what’s what

Represent the pictures on your PowerPoint slides.

■ I have created an accessible handout that goes along with my slides.

■ I will record an introduction to my presentation with a closed

Caption.

■ The following is a list of accessibility practices for the presentations that will be viewed

It has been studied and implemented in this presentation. Active and Engaged Learning:

To promote active and engaged learning, the presentation will include interactive elements such as live polls, think-pair-share activities, and a word cloud exercise to gather participants’ perspectives on digital fitness.

Note, the post will be updated after the conference November 20-21, 2023.
